A strength-based approach posits that individuals possess internal strengths and resources within themselves that can be utilized in times of adversity. In therapy, individuals discover that they are more than just their struggles and that experiences and behaviours do not define who they are as a person. Therapies used will also be strength-based in nature, i.e., EMDR therapy that suggests that our body knows how to heal itself, IFS therapy that believes we all have a core Self that innately knows how to guide our parts.
